Shortcuts

The default shortcuts are platform-specific and can be changed from Settings or with the [keybinds] table in config.toml. The generated configuration reference contains every action and both desktop default sets.

Hold Alt with either zoom shortcut to change the font size by two points.

Hold Ctrl (Cmd on macOS) to reveal numbered tab badges in the sidebar’s three-dot action slots. Add Alt to show group numbers. Press a number to activate that tab or group; 0 selects the tenth item.

Open the command palette from the sidebar footer menu or its shortcut. Search for an action, tab name, group path, or directory. The tab switcher searches tabs across every open window without mixing in commands. Up/Down changes the selected result, Enter opens it, and Escape returns to your previous view.

Settings has its own search field. Search by setting name, description, category, or shortcut action; choose a result to reveal and highlight its control.

After focusing the sidebar, use j/k or Up/Down to move through visible tabs and groups. Shift+Up/Down extends the selection; Ctrl+A/Cmd+A selects all visible rows. Left/Right or h/l navigates the hierarchy and collapses or expands groups. Enter or Space activates a tab or toggles a group. F2 renames the selected item.

Press t to create a tab in the selected group (or at the root), s to create a group, and x, Delete, or Backspace to close the selection. Escape returns to the terminal, dismisses a menu, or cancels a drag.

These navigation keys are part of the sidebar interaction. See the tabs, groups, and windows guide for pointer selection and dragging.

Keybind values use lowercase configuration tokens, for example ctrl+alt+t. Use none to unbind an action. Cretty swaps an existing binding when you assign the same key combination to another action.

Context menus display the current binding for supported actions, including custom bindings. Unbound actions have no shortcut label. While a menu is open, its displayed shortcuts apply to the clicked row or selection, even when a different tab is active.
